The very sad news upon the Earthquake that occurred in Japan with the 8.8 magnitude. The main areas that effected in Japan are Minamisanriku, Soma, Rikuzentakata & Sendai Airport. The tsunami in Japan was affected a wide hay of the northeast coast of the island nation. The main area affected is Sendai city that has been set off a series of waves that did so far incalculable damage.
Before all this I would like to explain the type of earthquake that occurred. There are mainly 4 type of earthquake. There are normal, reverse, strike-slip and oblique-slip.
i) NORMAL TYPE : Normal and reverse faulting are examples of dip-slip, where the displacement along the fault is in the direction of dip and movement on them involves a vertical component. Normal faults occur mainly in areas where the crust is being extended such as a divergent boundary.
ii) REVERSE TYPE : Reverse faults occur in areas where the crust is being shortened such as at a convergent boundary.
iii) STRIKE – SLIP : .. Strike-slip faults are steep structures where the two sides of the fault slip horizontally past each other; transform boundaries are a particular type of strike-slip fault.
iv) OBLIQUE SLIP : This is caused by movement on faults that have components of both dip-slip and the strike-slip.
While the quake has affected much of Japan, with aftershocks themselves reaching 8.8 to 9.0 magnitude, damage from the tsunami has affected coastal areas, especially around Sendai where waves reached six miles inland.
United State National Weather Service issued tsunami warnings to more than 50 countries and territories. California also experienced the effects by storm surge due to the tsunami.
